Torrevieja Mayor José Manuel Dolón has presented 16 Local Police officers with diplomas for having passed a Defensive Police Shooting Course which they took between October 30th and November 17th.
It is the first time the Town Hall has organised a course like this, which was held at the Army base at Fontcalent in Alicante.
“This is part of the council’s measures to improve the professionalism and safety of the Local Police, given the current security context,” said the mayor, adding that they intend to put on more courses like it.
Instructor Víctor Hernández explained the courses are 40 hours long over 3 days, the last two of which are for weapons practice. He said it is important to known the weapon 100% because it is their tool for working with.
The mayor noted that this kind of training is complementary but not a replacement for the obligatory shooting practice police have to take but has not been possible in Torrevieja for administrative reasons.
