The Ministry for Development has asked companies to bid for the contract to widen the N-332 in Torrevieja, which has an estimated budget of €40 million. It is offering up to €960,000 to companies to design the project within a deadline of 18 months,
The N-332 has only one lane in each direction through Torrevieja and there have been calls to widen it for more than a decade in order to decongest traffic on this road which is used by 40,000 vehicles every day.
The same road was already widened between Torrevieja and Pilar de la Horadada, and Torrevieja and Guardamar del Segura but the job was delayed in the municipality because, among other reasns, the Town Hall did not hand over the land needed to carry out the work.
The project also includes reorganising the accesses to this road, which at the moment is one of the main problems for tailbacks on both the CV-905 and the CV-95.
This is an important step forwards but there is still a long road ahead. The company that gets the contract will have until May 2019 to hand in the project, and then the building work will have to be done.
