The 2017 Torrevieja Sevillanas Fair will bring music, dance, food and fun to the port area from October 11th-15th, having been moved by the Town Hall from its usual dates in May.
Councillor Domingo Pérez explained there will be 29 “casetas” (huts), one more than last year, which are practically set up already. A local dance academy will be performing each night and he said there will be a wide variety of food available, including vegan options at the caseta “Entre Amig@s”.
It has been organised by the Casa de Andalucía Rafael Alberti, the president of which, Rosa Martínez presented the official programme.
The fair starts at 8:30pm on Wednesday the 11th with the lights being turned on and a musical performance by renowned copla singer Rosa María Luján.
Thursday morning will be dedicated to children with face painting, singing, balloons and workshops from midday. There will also be dance groups and choirs performing. During the day an area will be dedicated to local performers “who also deserve their moment of glory”.
Friday will be a homage to the sevillanas, including the popular band Requiebros. After the traditional Rociero sung Mass there will be a parade to the fairground. At night there will be the show “Viva la Copla” by Carlos Vargas y Rosario Mohedano and the prize will be awarded for the best caseta.
To finish on Sunday there will be the parade, a horse show and the final sevillanas contest. The contest will be held over two mornings on the stages of the two biggest casetas (El polaco Flamenco club and the Town Hall’s), and will be divided into categories for academies and fans. The final will be at 9:30pm on Sunday.
After that the fair will close and the band Pura Sangre will give a concert, followed by the singing of the traditional Salve Rociera.
Domingo Pérez invited all residents of Torrevieja and nearby places to come and enjoy the fun of the fair.
