The ex mayor of Torrevieja, Pedro Hernández Mateo will be definitively released from prison on July 28th after serving the whole of the sentence he was given in 2012, the Superior Tribunal of justice for the Valencian Community (TSJCV) has informed.

He has been incarcerated at Murcia II Penitentiary centre.

The ex mayor was given three years in prison, and banned from holding public office for nine, and fined €10,500 for falsifying official documents and corruption relating to the public contract for the rubbish collection and street cleaning service in the municipality.

The court also ordered him to compensate Torrevieja Town Hall with €12,000, having taken into account the unreasonable amount of time it took the case to come to court.

Hernández Mateo went into prison in 2013 after his appeal was turned down by the Supreme Tribunal.
