AEMET counted a total of 24,100 lighting strikes last night between Alicante province and Ibiza.
It came late but in the end the storm that had been forecasted by AEMET with an orange alert for rain finally did arrive at about midnight last night.
The storm blew over a palm tree onto a house and brought down power lines in San Isidro, fortunately without causing anyone any harm but forcing the fire brigade to intervene, according to residents. Catral and Dolores were also hit with heavy rain and stormy conditions.
The storm ony struck parts of the coast with force, leaving most of torrevieja and Orihuela Costa completely dry all night. However in Guardamar there was an intense downpour in a short space of time which flooded streets in a few minutes and made it difficult to get around in automobiles or on foot. According to the rain meters of the Segura Hydrographic Confederation in Rojales there were 10.2 litres per square metres in just over half an hour.
