It’s that time of year when there’s a chill in the air, the decorations are up, and all through Torrevieja we are waiting for carols in the Square

This year’s Carols in the Square is on 14th December 2018 from 5:30pm in Plaza de la Constitución in front of Torrevieja’s La Inmaculada Concepción church. The laser light display is being put on once again by the Concejalia and ayuntamiento for Torrevieja, along with snow generated by a special machine, to put us all in the Christmas mood together with the famous el Belén nativity scene. The market fayre will be there as well including a stall selling mulled wine for charity.

This popular international carol concert is expected to attract more than 3,000 people and a number of local choirs should be there to lead the singing including: U3A, Velvetones, Studio Thirty Two, Crescendo, Andante, Cantabile, TAABS, De Costa Shantys plus others.

The Phoenix International Concert Band, with guest players, will be providing a popular programme of music to entertain the audience and will be accompanying the carols for everyone to sing along to. There will be words available to all the carols so please come along on Friday 14th and join in with the singing.

If there are any other choirs still wishing to be included this year, please contact Gloria on +34 679576591 for more details. Likewise, any musicians wishing to play with the band, please call Gloria or come along to rehearsals for the carols on Tuesdays at 1.30pm beneath the Biblioteca/Library in San Miguel de Salinas.

APANEE, the association for parents of children with special educational needs in Torrevieja, is the main charity that has been chosen to benefit from the event this year.

Representatives of the charity will be moving through the crowds on the evening to make collections on behalf of APANEE and will be easily identified by their charity’s logo on their clothing and collection boxes. Please give generously to this worthy charity for children with congenital or acquired physical and mental disabilities.
Some of the members of the Phoenix International Concert Band spent time with APANEE last week at their premises in Torrevieja where they met a number of children as well as staff and carers, who all do a fantastic job.
