Torrevieja will be the location of a major earthquake simulation this month and today a presentation of the plan is being held
On Wednesday, November 14, Torrevieja will be the site of a major earthquake, testing the emergency services to capacity, although the good news is that it is only a simulation, aimed at just that, putting the emergency services to the test in the event of a real emergency taking place, like the major disaster that destroyed the town in 1829.
Today, Tuesday November 6, a presentation of the plan is being held at the Virgen del Carmen cultural centre, to which admission is free until full capacity is reached.
The general objectives of “Gran Simulacro 2018” includes the activation of the response to the emergency at the municipal level and the activation of the Self-Protection Plans in the school and educational centres of the town.
During the simulation exercises will be carried out, among which is the assessment of damages in buildings and infrastructure, including two secondary schools, municipal archive and the safeguarding and transfer of works of art, with the assistance of the emergency services from around the area, supported by the military, UME, emergency teams.
Today’s presentation will go through the final stages of the plan so that anyone who may be involved and with concerns can be aware of the protocols and practices that will be put into action next week.
