Thanks to observant neighbours and the diligence of the police, a man missing from France has been located in Elche
Police in Elche have located a man who had a mental disorder and went missing from his home in the French town of Montpellier.
The 37-year-old man had been missing for several weeks and was the subject of an international search on account of his vulnerable state.
Elche Local police reported that several neighbours had alerted them to the presence of a man, apparently lost and unkempt, in the area of La Galia ilicitana. The individual lacked documentation and said he had come to Elche to recover a vehicle, but was unable to give any more details.
Elche local police investigated the situation further and found that man was subject to an international manhunt across the Schengen region which came into force on October 3.
The officers contacted the Gendarmerie in Lunel, near Montpellier, who confirmed the details of the man and arranged for his concerned family to be notified that he was safe. The parents of the man were surprised he had managed to travel so far, some 1,000 kilometres from his French home.
