This Monday evening there will be a special live transmission of Mayerling – the ballet – at the IMF cinema in Torrevieja.

This is the first part of a series of live cinema from the Royal Opera House in London’s Covent Garden that will run throughout the year until June next year.

This is the first time ever that the Royal Ballet will go live via satellite, with showings of this classic ballet in more than 150 cinemas and theatres across Spain.

Mayerling is a story of dangerous desires, family secrets and political intrigues that twist through every moment of daring choreography in Kenneth MacMillan’s ballet inspired by true events.

Created for the Royal Ballet 40 years ago, Kenneth MacMillan’s Mayerling presents the steep decline of Crown Prince Rudolf of Austria, who died in a murder-suicide with his teenaged mistress, Mary Vetsera. The ballet is a stunning depiction of a repressed, repressive court, of lust and need and madness.
