A British Airways Airbus from Alicante to London Gatwick was involved in an emergency situation on Tuesday, when the plane´s landing gear wouldn´t retract after takeoff.

Flight BA2631, the 10:55 departure on Tuesday 18 September, 2018, took off without apparent incident, until moments later when the crew tried to retract the landing gear.

The crew stopped their ascent at 6,000 feet and requested holding over the sea near Alicante whilst they tried to work through procedures to rectify the fault, but as they were unable to fix the problem the crew requested a return to Alicante, where the plane landed safely an hour after departure, without the emergency services being required.

Passengers finally left the airport on a replacement aircraft almost 10 hours later, arriving at Gatwick at 23:51.
