Choirs from the International Contest in Torrevieja to perform extra free concerts this week

Three choirs participating in Torrevieja’s International Habaneras and Polyphony Contest will be performing this week in Rojales.

The collaboration between the two local Town Halls through the Municipal Habaneras Trut has made this possible for the third year in a row, bringing the music to a wider audience and even greater renown.

Three of the choirs competing in this 64th edition of the contest, which started yesterday, have been chosen: The Choir of Beljin University of Technology in China (Wednesday the 25th), Tavor Chamber Choir from Ukraine (Thursday the 26th) and Marantha Christian University Choir from Indonesia (Friday the 27th).

The concerts will take place in the open air on the stage of the Malecón del Soto by the river in the town centre from 10:30pm.

Councillor Inmaculada Chazarra said they want the people of Rojales to get to know and enjoy this musical genre originally from Cuba in the first half of the 21st century and which many musicologists have called “songs of coming and going”.
