Visits to the iconic local industry on the Tourist Train started today

Guided tours of the Torrevieja Salt Lakes began this morning, which Councillor Fanny Serrano said was “historic” after having managed to complete many procedures to make it possible.

These 50 minute excursions around the different phases of the salt production will be available until September the 30th.

The councillor went along on the first of these trips “like just another tourist”. She explained that the visitors had an audio guide to tell them information about the salt lakes, their origin, their flora and fauna, and something people are very curious about, the reason why they are pink. Other details included the main countries the salt is exported to.

The train stopped at the installations for the tourists to take photos, touch the salt and climb up one of the mountains of salt.

“The truth is that this view of the salt lakes, which has never been able to be seen before is impressive and it seems like your are in another place not on Earth. It is an experience that nobody can miss.”

The Tourist Train, which has its stop on Avenida de la Libertad, will make this excursion every two hours on even hours from 10am to 8pm. The visit costs €6.95 for adults and €5.95 for pensioners and children aged between 2 and 12.
