The public is asked to respect feeding places in the municipality

The town hall of Pilar de la Horadada is taking a serious stance towards individuals that carry out the despicable act of poisoning defenceless animals – in particular, cats and dogs.

Recently, there have been several such cases that the town hall has had to deal with, and their attitude is to come down hard on such culprits.

Councillor for the Protection and Health of Animals, José Francisco Abaladejo, has issued a reminder to the public that sanctions of up to 30,000€ could be given to those found guilty.

In the Pilar municipality there are eight feral cat colonies, and four points within the area where they are allowed to be fed – which they are by a number of volunteers.

It is also detailed in the local regulations that it is permitted to feed the stray cat colonies dry food in these specific areas.

The councillor has asked for these designated feeding areas to be respected by residents and visitors, not to mention the lives of the cats themselves as they play an important role in controlling vermin such as cockroaches or rats.

In other animal news, two new dog parks will shortly be inaugurated; one in Calle Mar Egeo in Torre de la Horadada and the other in Avenida de Austria in Mil Palmeras.
