Film festival, concert, workshops, exhibition and market in this unique setting in Rojales

There will be a double dose of arts and crafts at the Rodeo Caves in Rojales this month. The encounter and market with artists and artisans will be on both Friday July 6th and Saturday July 7th.

The events will be in the evenings from 7pm as it is too hot to hold them in the daytime during the summer.

As well as the usual stalls at which you can but unique pieces and talk with the people who made them, there is a wealth of other activities to enjoy.

First of all is the El Rodeo Film Fest, a short film festival that is taking place over the two nights which includes several entries that have already picked up numerous prizes at other film festivals around the world. They have to be less than 30 minutes and most of them are in Spanish otherwise they will have Spanish subtitles.

There are 16 entries in very varied genres including comedy, drama, psychological horror, social documentary, science fiction, etc. They include Cuerdas which won a Goya (Spanish Oscar) for best animation, and Cuanto Más allá del dinero (How much. Beyond money) by Catalan director Kike Maillo who has also won a Goya before.

The showings will be on both nights in the open air by Cave 3 from 10:30pm. Consult the programme at

Saturday night has various other attractions, including the opening if a new exhibition in the Sala Mengolero by minimal artist José Ángel Paredes Gil “Anguilillo”, which will be open until August 27th.

There will be live music from 8pm when El Avispero will play a concert of “music from around the world and surrounding areas”.

Finally there will also be free workshops for all ages from 7pm. In Cave 7 you can learn about working with leather and in Cave 2 about creative play with recycling. Just turn up and join in!
