The legendary group Boney M will close the LGTBI celebrations
Orihuela will celebrate its second edition of Gay Pride from Tuesday this week with a diverse programme of events.
Activities will include music, literature, film, exhibitions and art.
There will also be a particular focus on transgenderism, this year, as well as equality between men and women.
Councillor for Culture, Mar Ezcurra, said that the two main objectives of the Orihuela Gay Pride event were “to demand equal rights for the LGTBI collective of people” and to “celebrate the right to be who we are and to fall in love with whoever we want”.
The opening address will be given by one of the 50 most influential gays in the country, according to El Mundo, – Agustín Cascales. Cascales comes from Orihuela, is a reporter and the chief editor of one of the leading LGTBI publications in Spain – Shangay. He is also a well-known deejay and will take to the decks after giving the opening speech on the first night of the event.
Tuesday 26 June: Showing of transgender-aware Oscar-winning film “Una Mujer Fantástica”, which won a prize for the best foreign film in 2018. This will be on at 20.30h at the María Moliner Municipal Library.
Wednesday 27 June: Concert by Silvia Comes in the cloister of the Municipal Library.
Thursday 28 June: Inauguration of the “Más allá del Arco Iris” exhibition, which follows the music driven by the LGTBI movement. This will take place in the San Juan de Dios exhibition rooms at 21.00h and will be followed by a huge party and music from Agustín Cascales.
Tuesday 3 July: Presentation of the book ‘Bitch She’s Madonna. The Queen of Pop in Contemporary Culture’.
Wednesday 4 July: Showing of Oscar-winning film ‘Llámame por tu nombre’ by Luca Guadgnino.
Thursday 5 July: Huge party at the Recinto Ferial Los Huertos, with a concert by legendary disco group from the 70s and 80s – Boney M – closing the celebrations.
