The company awarded the project have done so for half the original budgeted cost
The clock is ticking and, although it might seem hard to believe right now, traffic queues on the N-332 through Torrevieja may well soon be a thing of the past.
This week, the Official State Bulletin of Spain (BOE) published confirmation that the tender to draft the plans for widening the road to two lanes in each direction has been awarded.
The company which has won the contract is Consultrans SU, a firm who specialise in transport planning, and have won the contract based on their offer 492,000 euro, half of the initial tender price of 986,000 euro, tax included.
The execution period of this phase is 18 months, which takes us to December 2019, which will see the company undertake such work as the environmental impact assessment and, if it all of this planning and testing succeeds, the next stage will be that the Ministry of Development will tender, if it has a budget, the award of the construction of the widening and duplication to a double-lane dual carriageway for the eight kilometres which pass Torrevieja, with an estimated investment of around 40 million euro.
So, although it is now only a matter of time, don´t hold your breath just yet, enjoy the scenery and the view as you´re sat there in a queue, as the actual widening work won´t begin until the end of 2020, assuming all goes to plan, but that is a mere two years away.
