The beach is showing a yellow flag today

Bathing was strictly prohibited in the waters of Mil Palmeras beach on Tuesday after several sightings of the dreaded Portuguese Man O’ War that has plagued beaches in the Alicante province for the last month or so.

Unfortunately, one bather was stung and was taken to a nearby medical centre. The bather is said to be out of danger but has suffered burns to his arms and legs.

This morning, specialists examined the waters and how the tide was moving, and decided to open the beach to bathers, but with the precaution of a yellow flag.

The Department for the Environment from the town hall of Pilar de la Horadada warned that these jellyfish could return to the Mil Palmeras beach area and asked bathers to be alert at all times if entering the water.
