Most new jobs have been in the services sector
According to SERVEF (Valencian Employment and Training Service), the number of people without a job in the Vega Baja area was reduced by 608 people last month, with just over half this number coming from people living in Torrevieja.
Unemployment was reduced the most in the following municipalities: Torrevieja (316), Orihuela (149), Albatera (46), Guardamar del Segura (24), Almoradí (20), Cox (20) and San Fulgencio (20), while it increased in Rafal (26), Catral (15), Callosa de Segura (14), San Isidro, (8), Jacarilla (8), Benijófar (5), Pilar de la Horadada (4) and Granja de Rocamora (1) and remained the same in Daya Nueva (0).
The majority of people took new jobs in the services sector (468), followed by construction (105) and industry (41).
However, in the agriculture sector a total of 10 jobs were lost.
Despite the positive figures for May, 25,000 people in the Vega Baja area still remain unemployed and looking for work – 10,677 men and 14, 923 women.
