Four other detentions in operation by Murcia Guardia Civil

A Guardia Civil operation against trading in human beings has resulted in the arrests of five people, one in Almoradí and the rest in Guadalupe (Murcia) y Torredembarra (Tarragona).

The three men and two women are all Moroccan and aged between 29 and 45. The supposed leader of this gang had already been arrested three times in the last month for crimes of the same nature.

In the searches of homes in Guadalupe de Maciascoque-Murcia and Almoradí, mobile phones, computer equipment, an expensive vehicle, €3,000 and an abundance of documentation were seized.

The investigation into the possible involvement of a resident of Guadalupe de Maciascoque with bringing immigrants from North Africa began in March.

If found he was not only sending them to other provinces but using some as guards along the coast to help with the people smuggling.

During the next two months at least five boats carrying about 50 Moroccans arrived at the beaches of Tarifa and Algeciras (Cádiz) after risking their lives with no safety equipment, not even life jackets.

An ample police intervention took place on June 6 and the investigation is still open.
