Accused could get up to 8 years for assault on girlfriend last year
The Elche headquarters of the Alicante Provincial Court started a trial on Wednesday against a man accused of trying to kill his girlfriend with a bladed weapon at the home they shared in Torrevieja.
It was in 2017 when, according to the Prosecution service, the couple were arguing frequently. The woman told the accused to leave the home but, the prosecutor explains, when the man was packing his suitcase she wanted to check if he had taken any valuables so cut the baggage with scissors.
After this, the man hit the woman and took out a katana style sword with which he tried to stab her in the abdomen. The victim defended herself and received cuts to the arms and a shoulder.
The prosecution is asking for a sentence of 8 years in prison for attempted homicide.
