Cambiemos claims company has “repeatedly failed” to fulfil conditions and charges highest prices in the area

Political party Cambiemos Orihuela has proposed to the PP-C’s council that the contract to manage the Orihuela Costa Municipal Sports Centre (CDM) should be checked because the company managing it has “repeatedly failed” to fulfil the conditions since it took over in 2010.

Cambiemos Councillor Javier Gracia suggested the service should be “rescued” on behalf of the public from this company who were awarded control until the year 2022, with a possibility to extend this until 2030.

Gracia said one of the contract’s conditions was that the company build a modern gym “but so far it has not even laid the first stone”.

He indicated that because of the company’s failures, municipal technicians have not been able to approve payment of many of its invoices, forcing it to cancel some of its activities due to lack of funds.

He reminded the contract not only gives the company the right to manage the centre but also to be paid €2.3 million by the Town Hall over 12 years (2010-2022).

At the same time the CDM charges the highest prices in the area, as Cambiemos have complained several times before. “Residents say it is cheaper to travel to Pilar de la Horadada to play sport than go to the CDM,” said Gracia.
