No injuries were reported but 10 rooms were evacuated as a precaution

Residents of Torrevieja town centre got quite a shock on Saturday night as the porch roof of the Hotel Fontana collapsed for unknown reasons, fortunately without causing any injuries.

The incident happened at about 9pm on Calle Rambla Juan Mateo, where despite being a busy street no-one was passing by at the time.

There was a loud crashing noise and soon residents and curious onlookers had gathered to lend a hand or take photos of the damaged hotel façade.

Fire fighters from the Torrevieja station established a security cordon in case of further damage, in coordination with Local Police and Guardia Civil.

As a safety precaution the emergency services evacuated the ten rooms which at the time had guests inside, five on the first floor and another five on the second.
