Valencia authorises drivers to provide service in both municipalities during busy season
The Valencian Government has authorised taxi drivers from Orihuela and Torrevieja to provide services in each other’s areas so they can cope with the increase in passengers from June 16th until September 15th.
Director of Transport Carlos Domingo said this is for reasons of public interest and answers the request by the taxi drivers and town halls concerned.
Taxis based in Orihuela will be able to use the following stops in Torrevieja: Paseo de la Libertad, the Industrial Estatethe Bus Station and the Public Hospital.
Taxis with a Torrevieja licence will be able to use the following stops in Orihuela: Playa Flamenca, Zenia Boulevard, Cabo Roig and Villamartín
In Domingo’s opinion, this is a response to a temporary problem that happens in the summer when an exceptional number of visitors come and there is a problem with the capacity of the infrastructures. In this sense, taxis are delayed by traffic jams, especially on the N-332, and users cannot be attended to with the immediacy that is expected from a taxi service.
