Fashion show on Saturday by six employment training students in Orihuela
La Lonja in Orihuela will hold a fashion show on Saturday the 2nd of June at which you will be able to see swimwear, sportswear, cocktail dresses and evening wear all made out of hemp.
Six students who are taking the SERVEF employment training course in ‘repairing and altering textile and leather’ in Orihuela have created a summer collection that they will show at this event which starts at 8pm.
They were inspired by a visit to the Museo del Cáñamo (hemp museum) in Callosa which shows how the workers at the old factory made textile out of the fibre, which was a vital part of the local economy.
This is a personal project by the students, who decided to continue developing a collection after their four month course finished in March.
“They are looking for work and want to be noticed,” said their course teacher Chelo Diéguez.
The director of the Orihuela SERVEF centre said this course like all those they offer has work experience in businesses.
