Beach remains closed for swimming and Town Hall advises precaution
This Friday more Portuguese man o’wars appeared at La Mata beach in Torrevieja. The Town Hall has advised the public to be cautious and maintained the same safety measures: a red flag prohibiting swimming and the jellyfish warning flag.
At the moment La Mata has been the beach worst hit by the appearances of this species, which is not a true jellyfish but a siphonophore, but the coasts of Guardamar, Pilar de la Horadada and Orihuela have also been affected.
In Orihuela Costa the jellyfish warning flag is still flying and swimming is prohibited until further notice because the species is highly toxic and has a sting that can be dangerous.
