The faithful carried the statue to El Recorral nature reserve for a day of fun

More than 4,000 pilgrims participated this weekend in the traditional pilgrimage for San Isidro Labrador in Rojales, which has beaten its record for the turnout. The warm weather stayed all day as the pilgrims carried the statue of the saint over six kilometres from the parish church to the nature reserve of El Recorral. There they enjoyed a day of fun and a gigantic paella that had been organised by the Town Hall.

All day they took part in different activities like a petanca contest, musical parades, a flamenco show and traditional games.

The Town Hall made sure there was a strong security presence with 50 people including Local Police, fire fighters, medical personnel and Civil Protection. Fortunately they were not required to intervene as there was a peaceful and festive atmosphere.
