Ciudadanos says it is not worth challenging court’s decision to overturn ban

Ciudadanos Orihuela has said they will abide by the sentence of the Superior Court of the Valencian Community (TSJCV), which overturned the council’s decision in 2015 to ban bullfighting and use of animals in circuses in the municipality, after an appeal by the Toro de Lidia Foundation.

They said they do not agree with the sentence, which ruled it was a decision that could only be made by the national government even though it has been successfully challenged in other parts of Spain.

However, Ciudadanos indicated that while they do not support cruel treatment of animals like in bullfights or circuses, they believe an appeal would generate unnecessary costs for the municipality with no guarantee of an effective result.
