Restaurant owner Davinia Martínez wins national bartending championship
Orihuela woman Davinia Martínez has been proclaimed the Best Beer Pourer in Spain at the national championship organised by in Orihuela a well known brand of beers. She owns the restaurant Divino de Davinia Martínez and this year also came runner up in the Valencian Community regional championship.
“I entered the contest to learn more and have a good time. I’m happy to have won the title because I was not expecting it, the level in the final was very high”. Davinia had to compete against 20 other bartenders who were winners and runners up in the regional finals of all the other autonomous communities.
She has been pouring beer since she was 18 years old, and has a passion for this skill and for quality beers. “I think I won because I put a lot of affection, love and passion into it, when you have a good product you do your best,” she explained after being proclaimed champion.
The participants had to show a jury of experts their skill, efficiency and speed pouring beers, serving bottled beer, serving on trays and their knowledge and culture about the world of beer in a limited time.
“Pouring a beer well is not difficult, you just have to know the steps and respect them. Rinsing the glass well is essential, tilting it 45 degrees and then very precise when you finish with the head,” explained Davinia.
The champion received a prize of €1,000, while runner up Gustavo Rey of O Encontró (Ribadumia, Pontevedra) received €600 and his weight in beer.
