The best competitors in the country will be in La Mata on Sunday
The Stand Up Paddle (SUP) Mediterranean Circuit Race comes to Torrevieja on Sunday, May 6th for a race organised by Torrevieja Surf sports club with the Town Hall.
Competing will be numerous federated athletes from all over Spain, some of whom participate in international competitions, as the race counts towards the official rankings.
In the first edition of this championship in 2013 there were 32 competitors and this year 150 are expected, noted Councillor Javier Manzanares, “which shows how much the sport has grown in a few years”.
Councillor Víctor Ferrández said it will show off Torrevieja’s town and beaches and bring in off-season tourism to boost the economy.
The national competition has 13 stages and began on March 4th in Alicante and will finish on November 18th in Jávea.
Torrevieja Surf president Luis César Castejón said Sunday’s race will start at La Mata beach at 9am. He explained there will be various distances according to the competitors’ different categories and ages.
