Several Portuguese men o’war, one of the most feared marine species, have been spotted on the coast at Guardamar del Segura, the Town Hall has warned on social media.
In the last few days the municipal services have detected six of these venomous invertebrates, which are often mistaken for jellyfish.
Because of the danger that they pose, the Town Hall has asked people to take “maximum precaution and avoid swimming in the sea”. The municipal services are working to check all the beaches for more of the creatures.
Over recent weeks sightings of Portuguese men o’war, blown by the easterly wind, has forced Town Halls to prohibit swimming in several parts of Alicante and Murcia
