Walk is first in a series around Alicante province

The Provincial Council (Diputación) is organising another “Senderismo” (hiking) programme, with six new excursions to different places in Alicante province like the Sierra de Onil, the Barranco de las Peñas, Hondón de las Nieves and the Cim la Vella.

Deputy Juanjo Castelló said they have given €12,000 to the Mountaineering and Climbing Federation to encourage people to hike and to look after the environment while getting fit.

The first activity is on Sunday April 29th at 9am from Montepinar urbanisation, with a 9 kilometre tour of different parts of the Sierra de Orihuela. The trajectory is rated as medium-low difficulty and will take about 4 hours, taking in the Senda de las Minas, the PR-CV 59 path  and the Cruz de la Muela (the huge cross at the summit), among other areas.

This year’s programme also has an evening walk on June 2nd at 7pm which will cross the Sierra de Bernia along the PR-CV7 path to the famous Fort of Bernia, from where everyone will go back down to the starting point.

Registration is now available for all the walks on the website https://www.femecv.com/pack-de-6-actividades-del-programa-de-senderismo-primavera-otono-2018-diputacion-de-alicante

For each walk a bus is available to the starting point from the Plaza de Luceros in Alicante city at 8am, or 6pm for the evening walk.

The activity is meant for people aged over 16 but thise under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. The organisers recommend bringing a rucksack, long trousers, a spare t-shirt, a warm jacket (depending on the weather), hiking shoes, sun protection, sunglasses water and food.
