Monday was the 14th anniversary of her murder at the hands of a fellow pupil at her school, who also sexually assaulted her. Pedestrians claim they have to “risk their lives” crossing the motorway bridge More than 600 people protested last Saturday to demand a pedestrian lane on one of the bridges which crosses the AP-7 motorway in Orihuela Costa. Organised by the Lomas de Cabo Roig Residents’ Association and the FAOC, it was one of the biggest protests in memory in the area. Tourist Info at the beaches in Pilar

Temporary offices are open in Torre de la Horadada and Mil Palmeras Pilar de la Horadada Town Hall has installed two temporary Tourist Info offices by the beaches at Torre de la Horadada and Mil Palmeras. They are located on the promenade by the watch tower in Torre and in the plaza in Mil Palmeras, and they open every day from 10am-3pm until April 8th. This year’s festival of music, dance and food will be from May 23rd-27th The 2018 Torrevieja Feria de Sevillanas will be held from May 23rd-27th, announced Councillor Domingo Pérez, who explained that the contract to organise it is costing €99,500. The Covered Gentleman and the She Devil figure in unique local tradition Orihuela celebrated Holy Saturday with one of the most singular and traditional Easter processions, that of the Santo Entierro (Holy Burial), featuring La Diablesa (the She Devil, also known as the Triumph of the Cross), a very valuable sculpture that is the only representation of the Devil with wings, horns and feminine features. Its other fundamental characteristic is the presence of the Caballero Cubierto (Covered Gentleman), this year played by José Antonio García Gamúz, who was chosen to open the procession carrying the black standard and wearing a top hat which he never takes off, not even to enter the Cathedral, a privilege authorised by a papal bull in 1620.
