Municipalities ask Valencian Government for permission to share taxis in summer

Orihuela Councillor Begoña Cuartero and Torrevieja Councillor Javier Manzanares met on Tuesday to reach an agreement that would “help the taxi sector and passengers of both municipalities in the summer”, she said.

They agreed that because of the deficiencies in the taxi service due to the increased population in the summer and the traffic jams on the N-332 because it still is not a dual carriageway, taxis from either municipality should be able to pick up passengers from stops at the following places:

Orihuela Costa: Playa Flamenca, Centro Comercial Zenia Boulevard, Cabo Roig, Villa Martín.

Torrevieja: Paseo de la Libertad, Industrial Estate, Bus Station, Torrevieja Hospital.

In this way, the inter-urban tariff would apply to these journeys and the service would be available from June 16th to September 15th, 2018.

Cuartero said this would be a pilot project that will be evaluated at the end to decide whether to continue it in coming years. Permission must be granted first by the Valencian Government Transport Office in Alicante.

Manzanares noted that both taxi associations had asked them to take this action.
