More changeable weather expected for a few days

Rainfall on November 29 – MeteOrihuela

In the second half of November there has been precipitation in Orihuela on eight different days. This is a surprising fact because it is such a change compared to what happened on the previous days of this autumn.

One of these rainy days stands out in particular, November 29th. Firstly because the location of an Anticyclone anchored over the British Isles caused the flow of mainly Easterly maritime winds to predominate along the Mediterranean coast of the Iberian Peninsula, which brought a very significant amount of moisture. This combined with a small amount of cold air at altitude, giving rise to locally strong downpours distributed extremely irregularly. That is to say, it could have been raining in one place and five kilometres away not a drop would fall.

This situation is perfectly reflected in the accumulated rainfall that can be seen on the table above, which shows places around the Vega Baja del Segura and adjacent areas.

Notice the important differences between Guardamar, Rojales and Torrevieja, which are only a short distance apart.

Looking at the prediction for Orihuela and the Vega Baja during the coming days, the first day of December is estimated to be rainy during the first half of the day. A band of precipitation will start affecting Almería, advancing towards the Murcia Region and Alicante province. On Friday we will have a pause , as the wind will have a Westerly component, which is very dry and warm and will certainly push temperatures up slightly. Saturday will be a day of cloudy intervals, with a chance of the odd showed at the end of the day given that on Sunday a cold front will arrive from the Atlantic that will bring mild precipitation.

From then on it is too soon to say, as at this time of year the atmospheric dynamic is very changeable and forecasts can change in a matter of minutes. However, as a guess, during Monday and Tuesday of next week the storm will keep rounding the south of the Iberian Peninsula, so there will probably be a few more downpours. After that, it seems and Anticyclone will become predominant.
