This weekend, December 3rd-5th, the team Dominoes Championship of Spain will be hosted in Orihuela Costa, an event that will bring 360 competitors from 17 official teams from all over Spain.
The competition will take place at La Zenia Hotel, which is already fully booked because its 20 rooms have been reserved for the players and their companions.
Councillor Damaso Aparicio presented this championship with the president of the Spanish Dominoes Federation, Daniel Bascuñana from Orihuela, at the headquarters of the Asociación Amigos del Dominó de Orihuela, which brings together fans of this pastime from around the municipality, the Vega Baja and Alicante province.
Bascuñana explained this was possible because last year the Orihuela team of 20 players managed to win the national title in Seville.
“Having a hotel on the coast full in the low season is a reason to be proud,” said Aparicio.
He encouraged the dominoes players to try and win again for the second consecutive year, this time with the home advantage. The team has already won this trophy three times and has come second twice more.
The national championship will be played with dominoes that have been made especially for the occasion which is engraved with the name of Orihuela and the inscription ‘Tu pueblo y el mío’ (Your village and mine), in homage to the universal poet, Miguel Hernández.
