The tourist attractions of Orihuela will be present at the World Travel Market (WTM) in London from November 7th-9th. It is one of the most important trade fairs in the world for professionals and businesses in the tourism sector.
For the second year running, Mayor Emilio Bascuñana and Councillor Sofia Álvarez will travel to the British capital to meet with tour operators and companies, in order to promote all the types of tourism that Orihuela has to offer.
Álvarez said on Monday that the municipality will have a stand inside the marquee of the Valencian Government and the Alicante Provincial Council, and so the Town Hall will not have to cover any additional expenses. An employee of the Orihuela Tourism Department will also be making the trip to attend to visitors to the stand.
If last year they went mainly to attract golfers to the municipality’s five golf courses, this time they want to promote all its tourist attractions: heritage, cuisine, and the fiestas of Easter and the Moors and Christians.
“Orihuela is much more than golf,” she indicated, and advanced that they already have meetings arranged with Scandinavian and Belgian tour operators to attract tourism from these countries as well.
The councillor also reported that over the November bank holiday weekend the Tourism Offices registered 20% more visitors compared to the same weekend last year. She said the streets were full with people for the Tapas and Gin & Tonic Route, which also attracted a lot of foreign visitors.
