Course meets big demand for new recruits

Torrevieja hosted a basic training course in Civil Protection for 36 people at the weekend, who want to become volunteers for the service in Torrevieja, Pilar de la Horadada, Rojales and Almoradí.

It was organised by Torrevieja Town Hall because there has been a big demand for new members of the local volunteers’ group. The students will earn the status of Civil Protection Volunteers after completing 40 hours of written and practical exercises in the Real Club Náutico and the Fire Station respectively. On October 22nd and 23rd they will take the modules dealing with fires and search and rescue.

Mayor José Manuel Dolón praised the work of the Torrevieja group and their huge generosity for giving up their free time and making such an effort in the service of others. Councillor Javier Manzanares thanked them for the help they give at many events, their commitment day and night and their help for the Local Police.

On the first day of the course the students took modules in planning for emergencies and psychology, while the last two days will be dedicated to first aid, emergency management and policing.
