Charity Car Exhibition this weekend in Almoradí

Funds being raised to help Laura, a local girl with spinal muscular atrophy This weekend (October 22nd-23rd), Las Maromas Industrial Estate in Almoradí will be the setting for a charity exhibition of cars – classics and top end sports cars, motorbikes and trucks. The funds collected will go to help life easier for Laura, a girl from Almoradí who is suffering from spinal muscular atrophy (SMA). It will start on the Saturday at 6pm with a series of competitive events for the vehicles on a circuit, followed at 9pm by two rock concerts, by the groups Maraña Rock and Random Play. Sunday will begin at 9am, from when all the vehicles can be seen in an exhibition, about 400 of them according to the organisers. They will award prizes to the oldest, newest and most original or distinctive. At about midday the Desyree arts centre will put on a show of urban dance and from then on until the end of the day there will be a series of surprises, raffles, free gifts and entertainment. Orihuela prepares its first Flamenco Festival

Friday’s show is part of month’s activities celebrating local poet Miguel Hernández Orihuela’s first Miguel Hernández Flamenco Festival in honour of the local poet will take place this Friday, October 21st from 9pm at the Rincón Hernandiano in the city. Councillor Mar Ezcurra explained it is part of this month’s activities celebrating the birth of the renowned local poet, who died in prison after the Civil War. There will be performances by Rancapino Chico, “one of the most promising acts on the pure flamenco scene and following in the footsteps of the singers of Cádiz, who will be accompanied by the guitarist Antonio Higuero”, she explained. Afterwards, spectators can enjoy a show by the dancer Alba Heredia, the winner of the Desplante prize at the Cante de las Minas flamenco festival in La Unión. No one was seriously injured but the event had to be suspended One of the injured cyclists after being knocked off his bike A chance accident during the Virgen del Pilar Fiestas in La Campaneta (Orihuela) cycling race on Saturday forced the event to be suspended. A Guardia Civil motorbike crashed into a car that was parked on the race circuit, causing the motorbike to fall over and starting a chain of cyclists to fall over like dominoes, according to witnesses. British child abuse suspect arrested in Orihuela Costa

61 year old wanted for offences in the UK against his daughter and another girl The National Police have arrested a 61 year old British man in Orihuela Costa, who was wanted by the authorities in the UK for offences of sexual assault against minors and child pornography and detained on a European Extradition Order. The case dates back to the early 1990s when the suspect sexually assaulted his daughter, who was nine years old at the time, informed the police in a statement. During the summer of 2014 he allegedly did it again with a girl aged under 11 and also showed her videos of a sexual nature. The operation began at the beginning of this October when officers of the Provincial Brigade of Judicial Police were informed that the wanted man could be living in Orihuela, so several police went there and set up a surveillance team, culminating on Thursday with his location and arrest. The courts of the city of Nottingham charged the suspect, according to the UK penal code, with the offences of indecent assault, sexual assault of a minor, forcing a minor to watch a sexual act, and intimidation of a witness. For these four offences the arrested man could face a sentence of 39 years in prison. The suspect was put at the disposition of Court of Instruction Nº2 in Alicante on Friday....
