This weekend (October 15th-16th) is Catral’s big celebration of its cuisine, as the municipality holds its fifth Tapas Route, for which this time there will be 18 establishments taking part.
Each one is offering a beer and a tapa for just €2 from 11am-4pm on Saturday and Sunday.
There are special ‘Tapaporte’ flyers available with a map of all the venues available in the town, which can also be downloaded from the Town Hall website at www.catral.es/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/tapapote.pdf
This also shows what tapas they are offering, which range from vegetable lasagne, meatballs and spare ribs to oxtail cannelloni, an Indian mixed platter and Mexican mini burritos, as well as many more mysterious but delicious concoctions.
By getting your flyer stamped in at least 9 venues you can enter a prize draw to win a smartphone, a spa session, or one of 30 meals for two, and you can vote for which was the best tapa of the weekend.
Most of the bars are around the town centre, making for a satisfying “pub crawl” on which the food should at least soak plenty of the alcohol! Of course, the tapas are the star of the show here and the event is aimed predominantly at families, to which end to bring the event to a close on Sunday, from 4pm in the Plaza de España there will be a free tasting of typical sweets from the municipality.
At the same time there will be a cookery workshop showing how to make buñuelos and paparajotes, as well as a bouncy castle for the little ones.
