Torrevieja will host the third Dog Agility Championship of Spain on October 14th, 15th and 16th at the athletics track of the Palacio de los Deportes sports centre, in which more than 200 dogs with their trainers will be competing.
After a day of training and checks on the Friday, the opening ceremony will be on Saturday the 15th at 9am with the presentation of clubs and the first leg of the Agility junior will start at 9:45am. Afterwards will come the Jumping events for teams and individuals, in which only the best will go on to compete the following day in the Agility events for teams and individuals. On Sunday it starts at the same time with the second leg of the Agility junior and then the main Agility events, followed by the awarding of trophies to the champions.
This championship is being organised by the Club Agility de Torrevieja and forms part of the official competition of the Royal Spanish Hunting Federation, with support from the Town Hall.
In the Agility events a guide uses their voice, hand signals and body language to direct a dog over a series of obstacles, which it has to pass cleanly and as precisely as possible against the clock. The participating dogs are specially trained for this.
In Spain Agility events have been going on in a regulated fashion since 1988. Any dog can compete in them, whether it is a pure breed or not. The obstacles can be adapted according to the height of the dog.
