The Orihuela coast “will again be the stage for a big event that puts our city on the sporting map at a national level”, assured Bascuñana. A total of 89 pairs will compete on seven courts from Saturday, October 8th “from 9am until sunset and on it will continue on Sunday and the final will be at about midday”, indicated Aparicio, who emphasised that this sport “is on the way up at a European level and this is a chance for Orihuela to have this event”.

Álvarez commented that the event “is a great opportunity to keep promoting Orihuela at a national level at the same time as linking our tourism to sport”, as more than 400 people are expected to be staying in Orihuela Costa during the weekend, so it will have “a big impact on promoting tourism in our city”.

The mayor also said that the president and vice president of the Spanish Tennis Federation will be attending, as well as the famous tennis player Juan Carlos Ferrero. He encouraged “all local sports fans to come to La Glea and enjoy this sport”.
