Winter fun on the beach in Pilar

Hibernis Mare activities are back for another season The second season of Hibernis Mare winter beach activities in Pilar de la Horadada have been presented by mayor Ignacio Ramos and councillor Pilar María Samper. He said where they will be held on Mil Palmeras beach is “an excellent beach which has a rating of outstanding with magnificent services like a wooden walkway, a public car park, changing rooms, lifeguards, access for the disabled, children and pushchairs, and clear waters”. Samper said “the activity was designed to attracted tourism all year round and the new season is packed with more activities and more variety”. She invited residents and visitors to enjoy and join in these activities in the open air and as a family each weekend. Programme The new season starts on Thursday, September 29th at 5pm with Kinhin walking meditation, Hatha yoga at 6pm and Tao heart chi kung at 7pm. On Friday September 30th there will be Tai-chi at 5pm, Kundalini yoga at 6pm and a fusion of Oriental and Indian dance at 7pm. Among the new activities are a Baby Beach session on Saturday, October 1st at 10:30am, where children aged 0-3 accompanied by their parents can enjoy multisensory storytelling. In the evening, at 8pm there will be a tasting of vegan food as well as a session of Yoga Rave with a guest DJ from 7pm-9pm....

Guardia Civil recover 40 kilo tortoise in Bigastro

A resident found the animal by the roadside and called the police The Nature Protection Service of the Guardia Civil (SEPRONA) has recovered a tortoise in Bigastro. The animals was found by the roadside by a resident who immediately called the police. The person spotted it while driving and was very surprised by its size. A patrol came out and found that it is a male leopard tortoise (Stigmochelys pardalis) that weighs 40 kilos with a shell that is 70 centimetres long and 40 wide. The officers checked that it was in good health and required no veterinary attention, but as it had no microchip it has not been possible to locate the owner yet, although they are investigating where it came from. The animal has been placed in the care of the Raúl Mérida International Foundation for the Protection of Animals. This type of tortoise is from the African savannah and is the fourth largest. Two arrested for robbing eight bars in Orihuela

Suspects have been detained 48 times between them  The moment of the arrest in Orihuela The National Police have arrested two Algerian men in Orihuela, aged 41 and 42, who are accused of robbing eight bars and cafeterias in the municipality and its villages. According to police, the pair have been detained 48 times between them for similar incidents and the judge has ordered them both to be sent to prison. Police have been investigating since several robberies were reported at the end of last year and they found out that two people had “frequently” been going to the establishments during the day and using slot machines while studying characteristics like the places’ alarm systems. When night fell the intruders disarmed the alarms and forced open doors and windows to get inside, where they stole money from the tills and slot machines, as well as cigarettes, alcoholic drinks and even lottery tickets. Police were able to identify the suspects, who they arrested in Orihuela on Tuesday for robbery with force.
