Four weekends of fun and religious activities for young and old

The fiestas of La Mata (Torrevieja) in honour of the Virgen del Rosario start this Friday, September 16th with a ‘Cena de sobaquillo’ (bring your own food meal). There are both fun and religious activities, including a new soap-box car race and the usual paella contest, fancy dress parade, inflatable bull run for children, floral offering and pilgrimage to Lo Albentosa recreational area.

Programme of events:

Friday, September 16th

9:30pm – Bring your own dinner, disco. Plaza del Ayuntamiento

Sunday, September 18th

7am – Dawn singing in the streets by the Almoradí Auroros association, Santo Rosartio in the Plaza de Encarnación Puchol then Mass in the church.

10am – Bouncy castles and mechanical bull.

1pm – Paella contest (up to 20 particpants).

Saturday, September 24th

11am – Autos Locos soap box car race. Plaza del Ayuntamiento. Trophies and drinks for participants. Then water slide and disco.

Sunday, September 25th

10am Romería (pilgrimage) from the church to Lo Albentosa municipal park.

12pm – Mass sung in the park by Hermandad Virgen del Rocío de Torrevieja choir.

6pm – Pilgrimage returns to the church.

Saturday, October 1st

11am – San Fermin style inflatable bull run for children. Starts from the Plaza del Ayuntamiento. Wear white and red handkerchiefs will be handed out.

10pm – Big outdoor dance and disco.

Sunday, October 2nd

7pm – Floral offering to Nuestra Señora del Rosario with Los Salerosos Musical Society, then Mass sung by Hermandad Virgen del Rocío de Torrevieja choir.

Friday, October 7th

Day of Nuestra Señora del Rosario

12pm – Church bells and firecrackers.

4pm – Street entertainment and charanga musical parade

8pm – Mass

Saturday, October 8th

6:30pm – Multi-coloured fancy dress parade from Avenida del Soria to Calle La Lecha

10pm – Disco at the fiesta clubs’ street bars

Sunday, October 9th

12pm – Mass sung by Nuevo Amanecer de Torrelamata choir.

8pm – Mass and Grand Procession of Nuestra Señora del Rosario around the streets with Los Salerosos Musical Society.
