Last weekend of free Winter Beach activities in Pilar

Pedalos, introduction to diving, stand up paddle, kayaking and canoeing Pilar de la Horadada has prepared the final weekend of its second season of free Hibernis Mare (Winter Beach) activities. Councillor Pilar María Samper said the activities have brought about 200 extra people to the beach every weekend over the winter. On Saturday, May 28th there will be Yoga from 9:30am-10:30am; Beach Volleyball, Children’s Games and a Mini-Club (for ages 4-12) from 11am-1pm; and Zumba at 12pm. On Sunday, May 29th the closing party will take place, with Nautical activities from 10am to 1:30pm including pedalos, an introduction to diving, stand up paddle, kayaking and canoeing, as well as a simulation rescue at 12pm. To take part in any of the Nautical activities it is necessary to fill out a form in advance at the Pilar Tourism Office in the Plaza Campoamor on the main street through the town by 2pm on Friday (it opens at 10am). There will also be Yoga from 9:30am-10:30am; Children’s Games and a Mini-Club (for ages 4-12) from 11am-1pm; and beginners then advanced roller skating from 10am-1pm. Spanish Lifesaving and Rescue Championship in Torrevieja this weekend

103 athletes will be competing at the Municipal Swimming Pool and Los Náufragos Beach A total of 103 athletes from all over Spain will be competing for medals in the Masters category of the national Lifesaving and Rescue Championship in Torrevieja this weekend, May 27th-29th. The events are divided into nine age categories from 30 and upwards. At the presentation Councillor Pablo Samper was joined by the president of this sporting federation, Jesús Troyano, and the most veteran competing swimmer, Pablo García Cubero, who is 84. The events will be held at the Municipal Swimming Pool and on Los Náufragos Beach, and they will be shown live on the Tele Deporte+ TVE channel, which is available on the internet. Pablo García said it is important that people do not think life is over when they retire. “The end of work is not the end of being able to do other activities”, he assured. He also said this sport should be taught at schools as a way of showing people what to do if they have to intervene in a rescue. Motor racing fans found the Club Automovilismo Torrevieja

They plan to organise official races and outings A new club for motor racing fans, the Club Automovilismo Torrevieja was presented on Thursday morning by Councillor Pablo Samper. It is the first of its kind in the town and the president is Lubmir Hristov. Samper said “it is a joy to have a new club” and reminded that “the Town Hall is always willing to promote all the clubs in the town, and in this sense the the Club Automovilismo Torrevieja has all our support. Hristov explained how the idea came up to create a club like this in Torrevieja: “We all like the world of motor racing, we went to tracks together and because there is nothing similar to a club like this around here we wanted to create one so the fans can join us and enjoy the events we organise.” The club is registered with the Valencian Motor Racing Federation and has started with eight members “because we have just got going”, and they intend to “organise official races and some outings”. At the presentation Councillor Javier Manzanares was also there, who is a big fan of motor racing and has a Facebook page (F1 Actualidad) where he writes about Formula 1. 7 kilometres of new cycle lanes in Orihuela Costa

Employment training students have completed 6 months of work An employment workshop finished on Thursday which has continued the network of cycle lanes in Orihuela Costa, giving work to 35 people, 278 students and 7 teachers. It cost a total of €365,408, of which the Town Hall invested €100,000 in the project and SERVEF, the Valencian Employment and Training Service covered the rest. The network is an extension to the cycle paths started by a previous workshop in 2015 and connects with them from La Zenia to Playa Flamenca, and Cala Mosca to Punta Prima, as well as crossing the N-332 towards Villamartín.
