Man on trial for neglecting horses in Callosa

The animals were rescued in 2014 and 12 now have a new life at the Easy Horse Care Rescue Centre in Rojales Harley, one of the rescued horses, enjoying his new life / Miraud Photography Court of Instruction nº2 in Orihuela will hold a trial on June 2nd against a horse dealer whose animals were neglected and then rescued in 2014 at a farm in Callosa de Segura. The Guardia Civil rescued 14 horses and nine donkeys that were in a serious state of malnutrition, some of them even on the verge of death. The owner of the animals claimed that his business had gone broke and he could not provide them with the proper food and attention. The animals’ lamentable situation had been reported by residents of the area since 2012 although it was not until two years later that officers of SEPRONA obtained the necessary court order to enter the farm and free the horses. The resuce was one of the biggest in Spanish hispiry and was the result of a joint operation by the Easy Horse Care Rescue Centre in Rojales, the Refugio del Burrito in Málaga, and the Asociación Nacional para la Defensa de los Animales. Charity swim from Tabarca to Torrevieja

Gustavo Carrión to cover 28 kilometres for the Elda Hospital Clown Association On Saturday, May 28th Torrevieja will welcome an extreme swimming challenge reminiscent of the one done in 2001 by one of the best swimmers in the world, David Meca. The event is for charity to raise funds for the Dr Clown Association of Elda Hospital. On this occasion, it will be a swimmer from Monóvar, Gustavo Carrión Monzó who will swim 28 of the 30 kilometres that separate Tabarca from the Paseo Juan Aparicio in Torrevieja. He will set of from the Isle of Tabarca at about 6am and is expected to arrive between 1pm and 2pm, depending on the conditions at sea. Anyone who wants to contribute can do so by donating anything from €1 or more to the bank account of the Asociación Dr Clown (ES45 0049 2697 3820 15563499), which is a project that uses clowns to visit children in hospital and entertain them so that their time there is easier and they might recover more quickly. Photography competition for seniors

Pilar Town Hall wants to capture over 60s sensations of the municipality Pilar de la Horadada Town Hall has organised a photography competition for seniors with the objective of showing landscapes, portraits, celebrations, fiestas and curiosities that sum up sensations of having lived in the municipality. Anyone over the age of 60 can take part by presenting their works before June the 17th at the Casa de Cultura, Calle Carrestillas, 19. Participants can enter up to three photos and this requires them to accept all the rules of the competition, which are available on the Town Hall website,  A jury will decide the first, second and third prize winners, who will receive €150, €100 and €50, while a special prize of €50 will be decided by followers of the Town Hall Culture Deoartment Facebook page: Cultura Pilar de la Horadada. All the photos will be published there, and the one that receives the most “me gustas” (likes) will win that prize. Missing girl found

Torrevieja teenager was hiding out with her boyfriend, who has been arrested The 16 year old girl from Torrevieja who has been missing since Friday, was found on Tuesday night hiding out at a hotel which is closed to the public in La Mata. She was with her 21 year old boyfriend, who has been arrested by officers of the Guardia Civil. It was the Guardia Civil operation that managed to locate her at the aparthotel, where the two youths had been staying for the last four days. The young man has a restraining order against him to stay away from the teenager for alleged mistreatment, which is why he was arrested.
