Seniors Fair in Torrevieja from Thursday

Performances, workshops and associations at the CMO until Saturday The Municipal Leisure Centre (CMO) will house the fifth Seniors Fair (Feria del Mayor) from Thursday, May 19th-21st. Councillor Domingo Pérez explained it will have 40 exhibitors of services and products related to this sector of the population. He reminded that Torrevieja has a very considerable number of people over 60 years old and cited figures of a global nature to illustrate the numerical importance of this age group. The councillor explained that this fair, organised with help from the old people’s homes, shows “the force and drive of this collective in Torrevieja” and he added that they have wanted to show “the widest possible range of products, services and organisations related to the senior generation”....

Animalistas Association and workers join forces Councillor Carmen Morate has met with workers from the Municipal Animal Shelter and the volunteers who help out there and they have agreed to improve the service “Although at first it was complicated to combine a new way of understanding the service – which means a new ethical and moral concept – with the traditional working of what is called the dog pound, little by little everyone did their bit to reach a point of collaboration and I feel very satisfied with this”, admitted Morate. A few months ago the association publicly denounced the workers bad practices and the tension between both sides became considerable. For this reason, until now it has not been possible to hold a meeting, “which for these circumstances is even more valuable,” said the councillor. The meeting served to overcome situations from the past but above all the propose improvements, which Morate has “taken note of”. It also served to clear up doubts and agree new ways of acting. Equally, the volunteers “accepted the workers’ request to continue and even increase their help, as the volume of work since the political change at the Town Hall has increased notably”. Morate thanked them...
