Two men suspected of attempted petrol station robbery arrested

Off duty officer prevented the attack in Orihuela village but two masked men fled in a stolen car Orihuela Local and National Police have arrested two men suspected to have tried to rob a petrol station in the village of Arneva in March. The rapid action of an off duty officer prevented them from carrying out the attack but they both managed to get away at high speed in a car. This happened at 6:30am on March 30 when the officer, who was returning home after finishing his shift, noticed a vehicle with its lights off in the entrance of the petrol station and two masked people armed with knives running inside. The officer went after them and stopped one of them from attacking him with a knife. The Local Police posted a video from one of the security cameras on their Facebook profile, which showed the two masked men leaving after noticing the presence of a third person telling them to get out of the shop. Now they have confirmed that one suspect was arrested by the Local Police and the other by the National – who after their arrest were put at judicial disposition – and that the car they used had been stolen that same night. The officers have recovered the vehicle and returned it to its owner, who still had not realised it had been...

Vega Baja Hospital offers new treatment for anal fistulas

It is the first in the region to perform transplant of patient’s own fat and stem cells Two surgeons at Vega Baja Hospital, Juan Carlos Navalón and Francisco Mauri, have performed a pioneering treatment for an anal fistula using an autotransplant of the patient’s own fat and stem cells. It is the first time that this operation has been used in the Valencian Community. The team used this technique to resolve this quite common condition, which is an inflammatory-infectious condition consisting of an orifice inside the anus which connects with an external orifice in the skin. The tract is covered by inflammatory tissue and it is unlikely to close spontaneously without surgery. Surgery is the treatment for the majority of fistulas and there are various methods. However, when the fistulas are complex or cover a lot of the musculature of the anus, surgery presents significant risks, including the possibility of incontinence. Although there are various types of operations that try to prevent incontinence, in recent years a new treatment has been developed, the injection of stem cells and fat tissue into the fistulous tract can enable it to be cured. The LIPOGEMS® system was used for the operation, which consists of extracting the patient’s own abdominal fat with liposuction and processing it, using non enzymatic methods, in the same operating room for 20 or 30 minutes. Once it is...
