Ex mayoress and councillor get wet

Cáritas has received 1,000 kilos of food through Ice Bucket Challenge The Orihuela “Ice Bucket Challenge”, to collect food supplies for the local Cáritas charity continued on Wednesday, with Partido Popular (PP) Deputy and Councillor, Mónica Lorente, Socialist (PSOE) Councillor, Luis Galiano and lawyer, Federico Ros, being the latest nominees to accept the challenge. The three braved the icy soaking, and donated various quantities of food, which will be distributed among the local families who are considered to be most in need. Orihuela resident escapes house fire

Fire fighters acted quickly to extinguish blaze Two units from Orihuela Fire Department were dispatched to tackle a fire which broke out at a home in Calle El Colegio on Tuesday afternoon. The incident occurred at around 3pm, when the fire broke out due to poor combustion of a gas appliance. Fortunately no-one was injured during the incident, as the only person who was inside at the time was able to escape to safety of his own accord. Fire fighters and National Police officers acted swiftly to isolate and suffocate the flames. The kitchen and bedroom were destroyed by the flames whilst the remainder of the property suffered fire damage. Sci-fi and fantasy Comarcon festival weekend on September 6-7th Comarcon’14 has been organised by “La Comarca” Youth Association in collaboration with the Youth Council of Torrevieja, and is certainly a celebration for telly addicts and fantasy fanatics. Star Wars fans, Trekkies, Dr Who followers and role playing geeks will all love the activities taking place at the CMO leisure centre in Torrevieja on Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th of September. A world of fantasy and fun awaits all of those who wish to participate in the event, which this year will be more focused on entertainment and introducing newcomers to the alternative world, rather than just an arena to buy, sell and exchange fantasy memorabilia for old school collectors. More than 60 activities have been scheduled to take place during the festival, most of which are free to enter; as well as of 30 stalls with over 40 collaborators lending their brand to the event.
