Large shoal of tuna forces fishermen to work instead of celebrate
The appearance of a large shoal of frigate tuna off the coast of Torrevieja will keep the local fishing fleet busy for several days to catch their share. Due to this unexpected event, the Fishermens’ Guild has announced that the fiesta activities planned for tomorrow, July 15th, in honour of the Viegen del Carmen, the patron of fishermen, have had to be postponed.
These activities include the Children’s Games and the Paella contest.
However, the activities for July 16th, the Virgen del Carmen Day, will still go ahead without any changes. The Head Captain of the Guild, Pedro Ángel Carmona, apologised to all the residents and tourists in the town for the change. He says the postponement is a priority for the financial wellbeing of the fishermen and their families.
