Orihuela Costa Scandinavian Academy celebrates Green Flag award
In a ceremony on May 15th, attended by staff, parents and children, the Scandinavian Academy of Orihuela Costa celebrated being awarded the Green Flag environmental certification.
The Nordic Council has promoted eco-schools as an instrument for achieving a sustainable environment in the Scandinavian and Baltic countries. The award of the Green Flag recognises the environment achievements of the recipient schools. To obtain the award, schools must demonstrate activities in the field of energy saving, recycling and improvement of the open air environment over a two year period.
The Orihuela Costa Scandinavian Academy has conscientiously followed this programme. Some months ago it inaugurated a rooftop garden constructed from entirely recycled material. Children also help remove litter from the local area.
The enthusiasm with which the school and the children have pursued their objective of obtaining the Green Flag award was very evident at the celebration on May 15th. Local CLARO party Councillor, Bob Houliston has supported the Academy in obtaining the award and making the local Orihuela and Orihuela Costa community aware of their success. A representative of the Parents’ Association of Orihuela Costa public schools attended the ceremony and will try to arrange meetings and activities involving the children of public schools and the Scandinavian Academy in order to promote integration on the coast.
